ROUTE DRIVER I

POSITION SUMMARY

Since 1938, The Arc of the Peninsulas has provided services locally to tens of thousands of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families throughout the Olympic Peninsula region. In the process, we have tirelessly promoted the acceptance and inclusion of people of all abilities, advocated for the most current research-based improvements, and opened new doors in helping people achieve a lifetime of success.

The Route Driver will be responsible for delivering and swapping recycling bins and carts as needed. Run local routes to service The Arc clothing recycling bins, and collection of materials from partner agencies and bringing these collected materials to the warehouse located in Bremerton for processing. 

Please note that this is a highly physical position.
 

GENERAL DUTIES

Route Drivers are vital contributors to the company’s success by responsibly driving a 16-26’ box truck, picking up of all donations, and transporting materials. This position will be servicing donation sites from host locations to bin location within the assigned route in the Western Washington area. Drivers are responsible for collecting all bagged and loose clothes and shoes in and around the bins. Drivers are responsible for the proper maintenance of sites, including: cleaning and collecting of all rubbish disposed in and around the bins, loading and unloading the truck through a variety of mechanisms, and utilizing wireless scanning technology to prepare paperwork.

  • Run local routes to service recycling bins and bring the collected materials to the warehouse.

  • Unloading the box truck full of collected material after the route.

  • Load and unload trucks as required, utilizing pallet-jacks, pull carts and Gaylords, in addition to working by hand.

  • Stage finished product in designated loading areas.

  • Delivering and swapping clothing recycling bins and carts as needed.

  • Repair and maintain collection boxes as needed and directed.

  • Work Schedule, 5-day work week must be available to work weekends, 6:00 AM Start Time.

  • Loading and unloading goods efficiently and carefully.

  • Reading route sheets thoroughly, and planning trips to save time and fuel.

  • Obeying rules of the road and company regulations at all times.

  • Ensuring cargo is secured before moving off.

  • Communicating with dispatch and contacting customers when required.

  • Inspecting the company vehicle daily, which includes checking tire pressure, fluids, and fuel, and reporting any issues immediately.

  • Interacting with customers in a friendly, professional manner.

  • Must obey all state and federal traffic laws at all times.

  • Other duties as directed to support the functions of the department.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 18 years of age.

  • 2 years driving a 16' to 26' box truck for pick-ups or deliveries (NO CDL Required)

  • Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual and development disabilities preferred, must be willing and able to work positively with adults with I/dd.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Able to work positively and effectively with a variety of personalities and work styles.

  • Strong work ethic / willing and able to 'go the extra mile' when needed.

PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Acceptable DOL record (no preventable auto accidents in the past three years, no DUIs or reckless driving in the past ten years)

  • Flexibility to work hours based on business needs, including possible evenings or weekends

  • Emotional and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position offered.

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

  • Must have freedom of motion to bend, stoop, twist, and kneel.

  • Documentation of CPR/First Aid Certification

  • Strength sufficient to lift 50lbs.

  • Rarely may need to lift items an excess of 50lbs to 75lbs.

REPORTS TO

  • Assistant Manager for Social Enterprise, primarily through the Route Driver III.

HOURS AND COMPENSATION

  • $18.25-$21.16/per hour, based on qualifications.
